Upon joining the team at Tembo, the company was in the middle of a shift towards integrating design and web development to enhance their data consulting and management services.
The original logo being used was confusing to people outside the team, not being used consistently, and did not represent the shift in the company. The redesign began with understanding these connections
and sketching different ways of merging an elephant with different data elements. "Tembo" is Swahili for elephant and we wanted to use elements that represented the company's roots in data.
After a number of explorations, the final design arrived at uses the set theory symbol for union which is used to represent a set of elements in a collection. In this case design, development, and data are
the elements that make up Tembo. The union symbol was then altered to represent the profil of an elephant's face where the horizzontal stroke represents not only the elephants tusk, but also the letter "t".
